My friend Arthur Scott put out his first album on July 2nd of this year. If you were at the first Collective Perspectives party you may have seen him. We had high school science together, who would think we would be in the music world together all these years later. Find out more about him below and listen to his new record. We will let you know about his upcoming shows soon.
King ART (Arthur Scott) was born and raised in Austin, TX. At age 15 he received his first set of turntables as a Christmas present. From this point on, his love for hip-hop music and culture flourished.
As a young man, he spent countless hours in his bedroom learning to mix records, juggle, scratch, and freestyle rap. Early influences included southern rap legends such as DJ Screw, Swisha House, Freestyle Kingz, and UGK as well as underground west coast hip-hop (Living Legends, Freestyle Fellowship, Project Blowed, Dilated Peoples, Hieroglyphics). His love for golden age icons such as Big L, Gangstarr, Big Pun, 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., Outkast, Pete Rock, Wu-Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, and De La Soul has proven to be a strong foundation for his abilities as an emcee.
Nowadays King ART listens to Jedi Mind Tricks, R.A. the Rugged Man, Vast Aire, Madlib, M.F. Doom, J. Dilla, Anti-Pop Consortium, Apollo Brown, just to name a few. He still bangs the classics, of course!
King ART has been freestyle rapping and writing lyrics for the past ten years. In July of 2011, he released his debut EP entitled eXcaliber (available for free download @ kingart.bandcamp.com). Austin, TX, which he still calls home, has received his recordings and performances with open arms and open ears. King ART is currently working on a full-length album with his mastermind producer Ruler WHY, of the Vultures, and hopes to release it within the next year. Until then catch his live performances at a local Austin venue near you!
